What is Earlobe Repair & Reduction?
Earlobe repair and reduction are cosmetic procedures used to address elongated earlobes, split earlobes, and stretched earlobe holes. These procedures are often performed when patients have worn heavy earrings for a long period of time, have worn gauges, have experienced trauma to the earlobe, or have had multiple piercings too close together.
More specifically, earlobe repair is done to correct deformities and damage to the earlobe, while earlobe reduction removes excess tissue to reduce the size of the earlobe. This can be an overlooked but powerfully rejuvenating procedure.
Patient Testimonial
Jawline Filler
I visited Dr. Hassanzadeh to enhance my jawline, and she suggested a bit of filler – it was exactly what I needed. Now, two weeks later, I’m absolutely OBSESSED with the results. The change is subtle yet powerful, giving me that perfectly “snatched” jawline I was hoping for.
Dr. Hassanzadeh is also a total sweetheart! She makes you feel welcome and is incredibly knowledgeable about facial aesthetics. While I’m not quite ready for surgery, I’ve seen her surgical work, and I would trust her 1000% with my face when the time comes. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a change, whether surgical or non-surgical!
What are the Benefits of Earlobe Repair & Reduction?
Some of the benefits you can look forward to with earlobe repair and reduction include the following:
- Restored earlobe appearance: Whether you have an earlobe repair or reduction, you will restore the look of your earlobes for a more aesthetically pleasing appearance to your ears.
- Improved comfort: Stretched or sagging earlobes can often be uncomfortable or even painful, especially when wearing earrings. With an earlobe repair and/or reduction, you can say goodbye to pain and discomfort.
- Boost in confidence: With repaired and reduced earlobes, many patients experience a boost in confidence.
Earlobe surgery is also minimally invasive and typically performed under local anesthesia with minimal downtime.
The Earlobe Repair & Reduction Procedure
Typically, earlobe repair and reduction are done as an outpatient, under local anesthesia, in the office. Because general anesthesia isn’t used, you should be able to drive yourself home right after the procedure.
To start the procedure, we’ll start by applying local anesthetic to the ear. From there, Dr. Hassanzadeh will make the necessary incisions to remove excess tissue. Most often, this is done by removing a wedge that heals in a straight line, either vertically for earlobe repair or horizontally for earlobe reduction. Once everything is reshaped and repaired, all incisions will be closed with stitches, and you’ll be ready to start your recovery process.
The procedure usually takes 30 minutes to an hour to complete.
Earlobe Repair & Reduction Recovery
Most patients return to work the next day or occasionally the same day. There will likely be some swelling, redness, and tenderness, but those side effects will dissipate as you heal. Over-the-counter pain medication can help address any discomfort. Dr. Hassanzadeh recommends waiting at least 6 weeks before re-piercing your ears. We also recommend avoiding strenuous activities for a week or two after your procedure.
Am I a Candidate?
If you have torn, stretched, or sagging earlobes, or if you are simply unhappy with the appearance of your earlobes, earlobe repair or reduction may be the solution you are looking for. You should also be in generally good health, have realistic expectations, be a nonsmoker, and have no medical conditions that could negatively affect your healing process.
