What is Forehead Contouring?
Forehead contouring, also known as cranioplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that can help to reduce the projection of your forehead and bring down the hairline to a more aesthetically pleasing level. A brow lift is often performed concurrently to open the eyes and improve brow shape and position.
Patient Testimonial
Incisionless Otoplasty, Xeomin
Dr. H is an exceptional physician! I visited her for Xeomin injections and a consultation for Otoplasty (ear pinning surgery). She was professional, warm, and attentive, answering all my questions and ensuring I felt at ease. I wanted a “frozen but natural” look, and she guided me through my concerns without any pressure. The injections were quick and painless, and the results were exactly what I hoped for. As for the Otoplasty, I had avoided it my entire life (I’m 39) because surgery felt too invasive. Dr. H introduced me to an incision-less option, and I immediately signed up. The procedure was done in the clinic with only a numbing injection—I felt nothing! I couldn’t be happier with the results and am so grateful to have found such a skilled and compassionate surgeon.
What are the Benefits of Forehead Contouring?
The forehead reduction procedure offers many advantages to men and women who are looking to reduce the size of their forehead and lower their hairline. Some of the benefits you can look forward to include the following:
- Reduces forehead projection: This procedure hones in on reducing a bump over the forehead and prominent brow bones, creating a smooth transition from the forehead to the nose and midface.
- Can reduce forehead size by ¾ of an inch or more: Dr. Hassanzadeh will determine how much to lower your hairline to give you the results you’re looking for.
- Improves facial proportions: By improving the proportions of your forehead, Dr. Hassanzadeh can improve your overall facial harmony.
- Hidden incisions: Because the incisions are well hidden, you will barely be able to see them, and any scarring will be almost invisible.
- Short recovery time: Recovery time is as short as 2-3 weeks.
- Improved confidence: With a smaller forehead and a lower hairline, you can look forward to a boost in confidence.
- Dedicated expertise: With Dr. Hassanzadeh’s specialized training in sinus and craniofacial surgery, she will ensure the safety of important structures such as the frontal sinus while optimizing your aesthetic result.
The Forehead Contouring Procedure
The procedure will begin with the administration of local anesthetic to ensure you’re comfortable throughout the surgery. From there, an incision will be made along the forehead and hairline, or concealed entirely within your hairline. Bone will be accessed and reshaped, all the while protecting the underlying forehead or frontal sinus. The scalp will then be pulled forward, the brows will be lifted, and excess skin will be removed. The top incision will then be pulled down to the bottom incision and then sutured together. The incision from the procedure is usually hidden along the hairline for a natural appearance.
The surgery can take anywhere from 1 ½ to 3 hours, depending on how extensive the procedure is.
Forehead Contouring Recovery
Most patients can return home the same day as their procedure. You’ll likely have some swelling and bruising, and numbness over the scalp is common, but those side effects will subside as you heal over the next few weeks. Dr. Hassanzadeh will prescribe pain medication to ensure you’re comfortable throughout your recovery. You’ll need to come in for a couple of follow-up appointments to check on the healing process.
You will likely be able to return to work after a few days, but you will want to wait until Dr. Hassanzadeh approves you for more strenuous activities.
The results of your forehead contouring will become more visible over the next few weeks, with full results appearing after 3-6 months.
Am I A Candidate?
Ideal candidates for forehead contouring are individuals who are in generally good health, nonsmokers, those with realistic expectations, and those with high hairlines or larger foreheads with over projection. In rare cases, imaging is required for surgical clearance, usually in those with a history of traumatic head injury.
Dr. Hassanzadeh will determine if forehead contouring is right for you during your initial consultation.
