What is a Rhinoplasty?

A rhinoplasty (also known as a nose job) is a type of cosmetic surgery that is designed to refine the shape of the nose and improve airflow. The procedure enhances your facial proportionality and can address a crooked nose, nasal hump, a bulbous nasal tip, a large or upturned nose, nasal asymmetry, and more. Dr. Hassanzadeh will reshape the cartilage, bone, and skin to give you the perfect nose you’re looking for while retaining desirable ethnic characteristics for a natural result.

The procedure may involve removing cartilage and bone or augmentation with a cartilage graft, also known as dorsal augmentation rhinoplasty. She can also address a deviated septum, nasal valve collapse, or other concerns causing issues with your nasal function.

There are two main types of rhinoplasty: open and closed. Open rhinoplasty is done when major changes need to be made to the nose and involves separating the skin from the bone and cartilage to reshape the underlying tissues, cartilage, and bone. Closed rhinoplasty is done for minor changes and involves the incisions being made inside the nostrils.

Patient Testimonial

Jawline Filler

I visited Dr. Hassanzadeh to enhance my jawline, and she suggested a bit of filler – it was exactly what I needed. Now, two weeks later, I’m absolutely OBSESSED with the results. The change is subtle yet powerful, giving me that perfectly “snatched” jawline I was hoping for.

Dr. Hassanzadeh is also a total sweetheart! She makes you feel welcome and is incredibly knowledgeable about facial aesthetics. While I’m not quite ready for surgery, I’ve seen her surgical work, and I would trust her 1000% with my face when the time comes. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a change, whether surgical or non-surgical!

What are the Benefits of Rhinoplasty?

There are a variety of advantages you can look forward to with a rhinoplasty, including the following:

  • Boost in confidence: Many patients experience increased confidence and improved self-image after rhinoplasty.
  • Improve how well you breathe: Rhinoplasty can correct structural problems like a deviated septum, improving airflow and making breathing easier.
  • Repair of injuries: This surgery is ideal for repairing deformities caused by broken noses, restoring both function and appearance.
  • Improve your facial harmony: Rhinoplasty can enhance facial aesthetics by reshaping the nose to better complement other facial features. It can address issues such as humps, bulbous tips, or asymmetry.

While rhinoplasty offers many advantages, it’s crucial to have realistic expectations and to consult with Dr. Hassanzadeh to determine if the procedure is right for your individual needs and goals.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

To start your rhinoplasty, we’ll start by providing general anesthesia to ensure you’re completely comfortable throughout the procedure. From there, Dr. Hassanzadeh will make the necessary incisions, depending on whether you’re having an open or closed rhinoplasty. From there, she’ll reshape the bone, cartilage, and tissue to give you your ideal nasal appearance and structure. She may use a graft taken from your nasal septal cartilage, ear cartilage, scalp fascia, and/or rib cartilage to enhance the structure and stability of your nasal bridge or tip.

After all the necessary changes are made, she’ll close the incisions (and redrape the skin if you’re having an open rhinoplasty) and apply an external cast. You’ll then be ready to start the recovery process.

The procedure can take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours, depending on how intensive it is.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

After surgery, you will have swelling, bruising, and some discomfort. Dr. Hassanzadeh will prescribe pain medication to ensure you’re comfortable and give you detailed instructions on how best to take care of your nose post-op. You will need someone to drive you to and from surgery and take care of you for the first 24-48 hours.

During your recovery, you’ll want to rest as much as possible and lay with your head elevated to help reduce swelling. If you have internal bandages or a splint, you’ll likely need to wear them for about a week. You’ll also need to avoid strenuous activities, showers, blowing your nose, making certain facial expressions, and wearing glasses. You’ll also want to wear clothes that fasten in the front to avoid pulling anything over your head.

Swelling and bruising typically last 2-3 weeks. Most patients take at least a week off work to heal properly. You will likely be able to return to working out after 2-4 weeks.

As for results, it can take up to a year to see your final results and for your nose to fully settle into place.

Who is a Candidate?

You may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty if your face has fully grown, you’re in generally good health, are a nonsmoker, have realistic expectations, and are struggling with the look of your nose. You may also be a good candidate if you have a deviated septum or have other nasal abnormalities affecting how you breathe.
